Huchuy Qosqo Trek Cusco is an excellent option for trekkers with too little time to go for a longer trek, yet avid to hike on a first-hand Inca path. The varied landscape and incredible views make this challenging trek an exciting experience.

Huchuy Qosqo means “Little Cusco,” located in the north of Cusco, facing the imposing Vilcanota Mountain range in the Sacred Valley at 3600m/11800ft. It was initially called Kakya Qawani, built during the reign of Viracocha. It comprises a ceremonial open center, the Kallanka (Great Wall) of 40m long, grain storage structures, and a long-lasting Inca-built irrigation channel, lined with stones for about 800m, that provides water to the site. An important agricultural and administrative center along with Pisac during the Inca period.

Huchuy Qosqo can only be reached by foot or horse riding.  The access from Tauca is 3 hours long, more or less, up to a mountain pass of 4500m, and then you hike your way down through a rocky and dusty path to Huchuy Qosqo. Horseback ride or two-day hike to Huchuy Qosqo is available at request.

    1. DAY 1 Reach to Tauca town and hiking

We will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Chinchero to then reach Tauca town, our starting point of the trek. We will start hiking uphill with a marvelous view of majestic mountains surrounding us and the peace-inspiring Piuray Lagoon until the pass at 4500m/14760ft. Afterward, we will descend along a restored Inca road for approximately one hour towards the homestead of Pukamarca (altitude: 4010m/13153ft). Keep on hiking downhill to Leon Punku canyon, leading us to an Inca bridge and trail. Along the way, you can appreciate the surprising rock formations and natural boulders channeling the river to Huchuy Qosqo (altitude: 3600m/11808ft), where we will arrive by early afternoon.

Once in Huchuy Qosqo, you will enjoy a detailed guided tour and then, you will have free time to explore more on your own while you receive the energies of this archaeological site.

Later,  we will hike to the town of Lamay (altitude: 3000m/9840ft) to finally drive you back to your hotel in Cusco (duration: 6-7 hours).
