Lima (the “City of Kings”) is one of the most beautiful capitals in South America, and one of the few cities that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.  The perfect start to your stay in Peru, Lima is situated at sea level, so you will not have to deal with altitude sickness.  In addition, the city offers a rich colonial history and important archaeological sites. It has vibrant nightlife, impressive museums, art galleries and festivals, as well as popular traditions spread across its well-known districts of Barranco, Miraflores and San Isidro.

Finally, the city of Lima is at the epicenter of the Peruvian gastronomic boom with a wide variety of trendy restaurants, many of which have won recognition around the world.  At night,  visit some of the popular bars in Barranco or Miraflores where you can taste traditional and avant-garde Peruvian cocktails and appetizers.

Lima is also your hub for countless destinations throughout Peru.  A visit to the Paracas National Reserve, the Ballestas Islands, the perfect sand dunes of Ica, and the enigmatic Nazca Lines are only a few hours away by private transportation or bus.  Most other popular destinations in Peru are only a short airplane ride away from the Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima.  For example, Cusco is less than one hour away by plane, so Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley are very accessible.

Modern Lima

Start your Lima city tour by visiting the suburbs of San Isidro and Miraflores. Drive by the bustling Financial Center, the prestigious San Isidro Golf course and the tranquil Olive Grove Park. See the impressive Huaca Pucllana, a pre-inca pyramid-shaped temple, that stands in the middle of the city. Stop at the Parque del Amor (Love Park) and enjoy unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean as you drive through the Miraflores Malecon, a road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Colonial Lima

Your next visit is Lima’s historic center, which was declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1991. Drive by the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, City

Hall and the Desamparados Train Station.  Continue on to Plaza San Martin, a large park in downtown Lima, surrounded by colonial buildings still displaying ornate wooden balconies.  Your final visit in downtown Lima is  the San Francisco Monastery and its famous underground crypts known as the Catacombs.

Please note that all visits are panoramic except for the San Francisco Convent and its Catacombs.

Next, enjoy lunch at Mango’s Restaurant in Larcomar Mall, a beautiful and modern mall situated on the cliffs of the Miraflores district, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

After lunch, your Lima City Tour continues on to the Archeological Citadel of Pachacamac. Often called the Rome of the Andes,  the site encompasses temples, streets, pyramids, cemeteries and it is home to the most famous oracle in the Andean empire.

Pachacamac was believed to be the creator of the universe and a divinity adored by old Andean civilizations. The site comprises pyramidal temples and enclosures built by successive pre-Colombian civilizations and finally the Incas.
