This travel itinerary in Cusco, Peru will take you to Machu Picchu which is considered a master piece of architecture and engineering, the most representative architectural example of Peruvian culture, and one of the most important and acclaimed archeological sites in the world. Machu Picchu is one of the few places in America that was declared both Cultural and Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The archaeological site of Machu Picchu is located in the Cusco region, in the Urubamba province, on the eastern slope of the Andean mountain range. It is located at a height of 7,743 ftasl (2360 masl) and is nestled in the subtropical zone at the edge of the rainforest.  As such, it enjoys a benign climate, which is warm and humid. MACHU PICCHU PERU ITINERARY

DAY 1

Tour Cusco, Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Pucapucara, Tambomachay.

Pick up from the airport in Cusco and transfer to your hotel (3,350m/10,991ft).
Pick up from your hotel. Visit the Cathedral of Cusco, Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, the archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, and archeological sites of Kenko, Pucapucara, and Tambomachay. Return to your hotel.

Evening free.

Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 2

The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (2,350m/7,710ft).

Transfer to Poroy or Ollantaytambo station to take the train to Aguas Calientes. At your arrival, you will take the bus up to Machu Picchu and explore the great “Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu, accompanied by your tour guide.
After lunch (not included), we recommend you walk up on your own to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku to admire an amazing panoramic view of Machu Picchu. You will transfer on your own to the Aguas Calientes station to take the train back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo where you will find a person with a sign with your name to transfer you to your hotel.

Evening free.

Overnight in Cusco.

Airport transfer.

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport in Cusco to take your flight back to Lima (morning or afternoon).

  • Acclimatization: we strongly recommend you drink coca leaf tea, rest for at least 3 hours upon arrival to your hotel, and eat little as digesting food might be a bit slow during your first day due to the altitude.
  • Weather: rainy season starts in mid-October and lasts through mid-March in the Mountains and Jungle.  January and February are the heaviest months of rain. The best time of the year to visit Machu Picchu is from April to September.

  • Luggage: you can leave unnecessary luggage at your hotel in Cusco when going to Machu Picchu per train luggage weight regulations.
  • Sacred Valley Tour: the best days to enjoy the artisan market of Pisac are Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. the best day to visit the food market is Sundays.
