WAQRAPUKARA PERU TOUR

You will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco to travel through the highlands of southern Cusco. On the way, we will find the Pomacanchi Lagoon, which is the second-largest lagoon in the Cusco region. Continuing with our tour, we will pass through Sangarara district (altitude: 3763 m / 12343 ft) within the Acomayo Province until we reach our starting point of the trek. From here, we will hike 8 km (or 5 miles) until the archaeological site of Waqrapukara, located at the top of a great ravine, as we marvel at the panoramic and beautiful views that surround us (duration of the trek: 1.5 hours).

Upon arrival at Waqrapukara (altitude: 4150 m / 13612 ft), we will have some rest and enjoy a boxed lunch. After a guided tour of this stunning archaeological site, we will start our hike back by a different route towards the town of Huayqui, where we will admire cave paintings that illustrate lamas along the way.

After three hours approximately, we will reach our private transportation at the end of the trail and will return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Level of difficulty: Challenging.

NOTE: The return hike can be by the same route to Sangarara, which takes between 1.5 – 2 hours, but you would not see the cave paintings. Another option is coming back by a third route towards the village of Campi, which lasts about 2.5 hours. You can decide the route of your preference with your guide before starting the hike.
