From April to October, there is less chance of rain. May and June are the coldest months, and it could be snowy. The warmer months are September and October.
Concerning the time, the best time to do the trek is in the morning, when is less crowded and temperature is more pleasant.
This trek is moderate because of the steep inclines and is recommended for people in good hiking shape. Just take your time during the ascent, otherwise it is possible to rent a horse part of the way (not included in the price). Remember that you should spend some days acclimating to the altitude before the trek because you will be hiking at a very high elevation.
Palcoyo demands a less strenuous hike which can be done in a shorter time (45 minutes versus 2 hours) and it is suitable for families, although it is located a bit farther than Vinicunca.
Vinicunca is a more popular and crowded destination, while Palccoyo is still a bit unknown.
If you’re interested in a more challenging trek, then Vinicunca may be the right one for you.
