    This is a classic tour to explore the stunning Colca Canyon. First, you will admire vicuna herds and even Andean wolves when passing through the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Then, you will stop at “Mirador de los Andes” viewpoint to observe astonishing views of the Misti, Chachani, Sabancaya, and Ampato volcanoes. Afterward, you will have an initial panoramic view of the Colca Canyon from the Achachiua viewpoint. Moreover, you will pass by Andean communities surrounded by pre-Inca terraces and local inhabits. And last but not least, you will have the best time watching the Andean condor at Cruz del Condor viewpoint.

    1. Day 1 Trip from Arequipa to the Colca Valley

      Early in the morning, you will depart to the Colca Canyon, located about 160 km northeast of Arequipa. Colca Canyon is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in Colorado – USA. It is at 4,150 meters / 13,612 feet deep and for this reason, is considered as one of the deepest canyons in the world. The name Colca comes from the words of two ethnic communities which was the Collaguas and Cabanas who lived along the Colca River. Besides its grandeur, the Colca Canyon is a fantastic place to witness closely the majestic flight of the Condor and It is a great opportunity to take up-close photographs of them. At the beginning on our way to the Colca Valley, you will pass through the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve where you will see at long-neck fine vicunas running freely on the ichu (Andean thick grass), as well as other animals such as the Alpaca, Colocolo (Andean mountain cat), Guanaco, Andean fox, Vizcacha, and Taruca. Then, you will arrive in the “Mirador de los Andes” viewpoint to admire the Andean landscape. Also, you will observe several apachetas which a pile of rocks placed one on top of the other, that people make as an offering to the mountains. Furthermore, from the “Mirador de los Andes” viewpoint you can admire amazing views of the Chachani, Misti, Sabancaya, and Ampato volcanoes. Finally, you will have an initial panoramic view of the Colca Canyon from the Achachiua viewpoint before reaching your hotel. As you can see, you can capture life in the highlands in a moment, and why not! In a photo as well. At your arrival, you will transport to your hotel/lodge.

    2. Day 2 Cruz del Condor viewpoint and Departure to Puno

      On your way to the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, you will go through some of the small old towns of the highlands (Coporaque, Yanque, and Maca). Maca survived an eruption from the Sabancaya volcano! An exciting drive on the left side of Colca Canyon will finally lead us to the “Cruz del Condor” viewpoint to admire the majestic flight of the Andean Condors, as they fiercely fly into the appealing depth of the canyon pulling our eyes down, allowing us to live an exciting experience! And also a great chance to take wonderful close-up pictures. Then, you will have lunch and then continue to Puno (altitude: 3800m/12464ft), located in the southeastern part of Peru by ground transportation. Along the way, you will notice the subtle changes in the landscape as we go higher. You will be entering the highest places in the country where Peruvians have been able to harness nature and build their civilizations. Once you arrive in Puno, you will transport to your hotel (booked on your own).

    • Acclimatization: first, we strongly recommend you to drink coca leaf tea. Second, rest for at least 3 hours upon arrival at your hotel. Third, eat little as digesting food might be a bit slow during your first day.
    • Weather: the rainy season starts in mid-October and lasts through mid-April in the Andes and jungle, being January and February the heaviest months of rain. Therefore, the best time of the year to visit the Colca Canyon is from March to November.
