    Chachapoyas is home to the great civilizations in the Andes, bore a formidable pre-Inca civilization within the Amazon region, in the Northern Andes.

    The Chachapoyas culture is also known as the Cloud Warriors who left remains of their existence, such as the strategic Kuelap Fortress, the Karajía Sarcophagi referred to as the “Wise Men”, the Revash funerary complex built on a cliff for the prestigious and powerful and the breathtaking Gocta Waterfall. Explore with us the magic world of the Chachapoyas culture and their legacy to the present Amazon people.

    1. DAY 1 Arrival and Transfer from Jaen to Chachapoyas

      Flight Lima – Jaén (not included). We will pick you up from the airport and transfer from Jaen to Chachapoyas (duration: 4 hours approx.).

      Evening free.

      Overnight at La Xalca or Casona Monsante (3-star hotels).

    2. DAY 2 Quiocta Cavern and Karajia Sarcophagi Full-Day Tour

      After breakfast at the hotel, we will leave Chachapoyas at 8:00 am, heading to the Quiocta cavern parking lot. Once there, we will start our 10-minute hike to the Quiocta Cavern. On the way, we will appreciate the marvelous flora and fauna. In the cavern, we will find beautiful ancient limestone sculptures and wonderful rock formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. Then, we will return to the site parking lot and return to the town of Lamud, where we will enjoy a satisfying lunch.

      We will continue our tour at Cruz Pata village and from there we will walk for 35 minutes to reach the Karajía Sarcophagi, also known by the locals as the “Wise Men” enticing anthropomorphic structures made out of stone, wood, and clay, as tall as 2.50m. Afterwards, we will take our car back to the city of Chachapoyas. Arrival and overnight at the hotel of your choice.

    3. DAY 3 The Pre-Inca Mausoleum of Revash and the Museum of Leymebamba Tour

      Enjoy breakfast, then we will be leaving Chachapoyas at 8:00 am, heading to the parking lot of the Revash Mausoleum. From there, we will take a walk for about one hour to this impressive funerary complex, which dates back to the thirteenth century AD, painted in red and cream color resembling small houses, three stories high! After exploring it, we will head to the Leymebamba museum or Centro Mallqui, created to preserve the 240 mummies and archeological material found in the Lagoon of the Condors in 1997. Two thousand five hundred artifacts including ceramics, textiles, wood carvings etc., which were used as offerings by the Chachapoyas.

      At the end of our visit, we will return to the city of Chachapoyas.

    4. DAY 4 Kuelap Fortress Full-Day Tour

      We will depart from Chachapoyas at 08:30hrs to visit the enigmatic fortress of Kuelap at the top of a mountain at 3000m / 9840ft, overlooking the Utcubamba River in the middle of the magnificent cloud forest. Its strategic location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. Not completely restored yet well kept by the favorable environment.

      On our way to Kuelap, we will stop at the remainings of the Macro archeological complex and learn about its history and connection to Kuelap. Then we will get on the cable car to get to La Malca to continue on our trip to Kuelap, which dates back to the sixth century AD. The tour will last 2 ½ hours approx. Next, we will get back on the cable car to Tingo village for lunch. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to the valley of Utcubamba and return to the city of Chachapoyas.

    5. DAY 5 Waterfall of Gocta Hike (4-5 Hours Round Trip Hike)

      Breakfast at the hotel, then we will leave Chachapoyas at 8:30hrs for Cocachimba. From here we will begin our hike at 9:30hrs to the Gocta Waterfall. During the hike, we will appreciate two waterfalls, beautiful sugar cane, and coffee plantations. As we descend, we will admire more of the Cloud Forest landscape and its varied flora and fauna, the natural habitat of Peru’s representative national bird: the Andean Cock of the Rock. We will also see the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, hummingbirds, and other tropical birds such as the Buff-bellied Tanager, the Black-necked Woodpecker, or perhaps the Marvelous Spatuletail, the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, and the Barred Becard, just a few to mention. As we reach Gocta Waterfall, we will rest at the base of this gorgeous place and head back to Cocachimba for lunch and then transfer to the Gocta Lodge located at the start of the hike.

      Late afternoon and evening free.

      Overnight at Gocta Lodge (equivalent to a 3-star hotel).

    6. DAY 6 Transfer Back to The Airport in Jaén

      We will pick you up from your hotel in Cocachimba and transfer you to the airport in Jaén (duration: 3 hours approx.) for your flight back to Lima (not included).
