CHACHAPOYAS TOUR PACKAGE

After breakfast at the hotel, we will leave Chachapoyas at 9:00 am and will travel for about two hours to Cruzpata town. Once there, we will hike for about 30 minutes to reach the Sarcophagi of Carajía, also known as the “ancient wise men” by the local residents. These anthropomorphic structures made of stone, wood and clay are up to 2.50 m high; and have remained intact due to their location on a cliffside. Then, we will return to Cruzpata town and will head to the town of Lamud to enjoy a delicious lunch.

After lunch, we will travel for about 30 minutes to the Juanita Punku sector and will start our 10-minute walk to the Utcubamba Canyon viewpoint, where you will be able to admire the majesty of the Amazonian landscape and the natural beauty of the region. Finally, we will return to the city of Chachapoyas and transfer you to your hotel.

After breakfast, we will leave Chachapoyas at 8:00 am and will travel for two hours to San Bartolo village. From there, we will hike for about one hour towards the impressive funerary complex of Revash, which dates back to the thirteenth century AD, and is painted in red and cream colors resembling small houses, of three stories high!

After lunch, we will explore the Leymebamba museum or Centro Mallqui, created to preserve the 219 mummies and the archaeological artifacts found in the Lagoon of the Condors—2500 artifacts including ceramics, textiles, wood carvings and 33 quipus, which were used as offerings by the Chachapoyas culture. Finally, we will travel back to the city of Chachapoyas.

We will depart from Chachapoyas at 08:30hrs to visit the enigmatic fortress of Kuelap at the top of a mountain at 3000 m / 9840 ft, overlooking the Utcubamba River in the middle of the magnificent cloud forest. Not completely restored, yet well-kept by the favorable environment, its strategic location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley.

After one hour, we will arrive at Nuevo Tingo village and go by cable car to La Malca station. Then, we will hike for about 40 minutes and continue our tour to Kuelap, which dates back to the sixth century AD. The visit of Kuelap will last about 45 minutes, and then we will travel back to Nuevo Tingo village for lunch.

After lunch, we will continue our journey to the valley of Utcubamba, where we can admire the remainings of the Macro archaeological complex from the other side of the mountain, and learn about its history and connection to Kuelap. Finally, we will return to the city of Chachapoyas and transfer you to your hotel

We will meet in the hotel lobby at 09:00 hours and will travel to Cocachimba for about an hour. Once there, we will hike for one and a half hour towards the Gocta Waterfall. During the hike, you will appreciate two waterfalls, beautiful sugar cane and coffee plantations. As we descend, we will admire more of the cloud forest landscape and its varied flora and fauna—the natural habitat of Peru’s representative national bird, the Andean cock of the rock. You will also see the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, hummingbirds, and other tropical birds such as the buff-bellied tanager, the black-necked woodpecker, or perhaps the marvelous spatuletail, the chestnut-crowned antpitta and the barred becard, just to mention a few.

Once we reach Gocta waterfall, you will rest at the base of this gorgeous place. Then, we will return to Cocachimba for lunch and finally transfer you to the Gocta Lodge, located at the start of the hike.

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cocachimba and transfer you to the airport in Jaén (duration: 3 hours approx.) for your flight back to Lima (not included).
