    1. DAY 1 Arrival in Puerto Maldonado and Transfer to Tambopata Research Center, Bamboo Trail and Night Jungle Walk

Flight Lima/Cusco – Puerto Maldonado (arriving before 12:30 hours  – booked on your own).

      Welcome to the Amazon!
Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the capital of Madre de Dios, and join a 1-hour bus and a 2.5-boat journey to the lodge. Your first taste of the Amazon cuisine will be in the river, while you leave the city to enjoy the amazing jungle landscapes.

As we cross the confluence with the Malinowski River, we will leave the final traces of human habitation behind. Within the 700,000 hectares of an uninhabited nucleus of the Tambopata National Reserve, sightings of capybara, caiman, geese, macaws, and other large species will become more frequent.

      Tambopata Research Center Awaits:
A spacious boutique eco-lodge, with a bar, a massage center, and buffet service in the heart of the National Reserve of Tambopata, is the only lodge inside the reserve in front of the Bahuaja Sonene National Park surrounded by dozens of macaw nests belonging to the Macaw Project.

      Bamboo Trail:
In the late afternoon, a three to five-kilometer hike will lead us to a panoramic overlook of the Tambopata river winding its way into the lowlands. The forest on this trail, regenerating the old bamboo forest, is good for Howler Monkey and Dusky Titi Monkey.

      Jungle Night Walk:
You will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but difficult to see. Easier to find are frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories.

Overnight at Tambopata Research Center Jungle Lodge.

Meals included: BL (box lunch), D

    2. DAY 2 Macaw Clay Lick, Monkey Search and Sunset Cruise

      Discover the Macaw Clay Lick:
On most clear mornings of the year, dozens of large macaws and hundreds of parrots congregate on this large river bank in a raucous and colorful spectacle that inspired a National Geographic cover story. Discretely located fifty meters from the cliff, we will observe Green-winged, Scarlet, and Blue-and-gold Macaws and several species of smaller parrots descend to ingest clay. Outings are at dawn when the lick is most active.

      Monkey Search:
This five-kilometer trail covers the prototypical rainforest with immense trees crisscrossed by creeks and ponds. Amongst the figs, ceibas, and shihuahuacos we will look for the Squirrel, Brown Capuchin, and Spider Monkeys as well as peccaries. TRC is located within this habitat.

      Sunset Cruise:
Twilight descends early in the jungle. Under the thick tree cover of the rainforest, darkness falls quickly, when the light cannot slip through the foliage any longer. Now, as afternoon slips into evening, you’re about to see one of the world’s most spectacular sunsets. The Sunset Cruise floats down the wide river, countless oranges and pinks reflecting off the water in lovely patterns.

      Night Lecture:
After dinner, scientists will provide a night lecture, an in-depth look at the biology of macaws, their feeding habits, the theories for clay lick use, their breeding and feeding ecology, population fluctuations, and the threats to their conservation

Overnight at Tambopata Research Center Jungle Lodge.

      Meals included: B, L, D

    3. DAY 3 Departure

The Tambopata Research Center is a spacious boutique eco-lodge, with a bar, a massage center, and buffet service in the heart of the National Reserve of Tambopata.

Its rooms from 21 m2 to 83 m2 feature a private bathroom and an open window facing the forest.

Your stay includes three meals daily, tea, coffee, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arriving, and transfers to and from the airport. Guides for small groups (6 people) are assigned.

Although it can rain at any time of the year, the Tambopata region tends to be drier from May until October. The rains start up in mid-November and continue until April. The upsides to visiting during the dry season are the trails that are not muddy, little chance of activities being affected by the rain, and more macaws and parrots on the clay licks. The downsides to visiting during the dry season are hotter weather, less bird activity on sunny days, more difficulty in finding amphibians, and more travel time on rivers due to low water levels.

The shoulder seasons (April and November) can offer good wildlife viewing opportunities with fewer crowds.

Natural spring water is provided 24 hours per day. We advise not to drink the water from the river, lake, or any of the taps. Consumable water can be found throughout the lodge from many dispensers and pitchers, as well as a variety of other beverages available. All the water that the lodge provides is purified with an ozone treatment. We also suggest that you use this water to brush your teeth.

The lodge is run mainly through a generator. Communications are powered by solar energy and LED bulbs are used in public areas at night.

There is electricity in common areas three times per day: From 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. / from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. (referential times). You will find Wi-Fi at the lodge. Please note that internet connection might vary on weather conditions and the number of guests

Camera, binoculars, light-colored & long cotton pants, long-sleeved & light-colored cotton shirts, ankle-high hiking boots and sneakers, flashlight (headlamp) with batteries, sunblock lotion, sunglasses, broad-brimmed hat, rain suit or poncho, insect repellent, small-denomination bills, small daypack, slippers or sandals for walking around the lodge (hiking shoes must be left outside before entering the lobby)
