Flight Lima – Puerto Maldonado (departing at 08:05 and arriving at 10:45).

Pick up from the airport and transfer to the eco lodge’s headquarters in Puerto Maldonado. Visit the pleasant Inkaterra Butterfly House near the airport, check-in, and in only 15 minutes, arrive to the boarding wharf.  As you enter the Amazon rainforest in a 45-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River, to Inkaterra Amazon Reserve Eco-lodge, breathe in the pure and mystical atmosphere of this peaceful place and let it fill you.

As soon as you arrive, you will have short briefing, then you may get comfy in your lovely cabin. Later you may enjoy lunch, take an afternoon siesta, share a refreshing tea time and get ready for your afternoon excursion.

You will have the freedom to choose from the 14 different excursions available at the Inkaterra Amazon lodge.

We recommend a guided walk along the Trail system, into the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica natural area, where you will find the Amazon Basin. An excellent introduction to the forest environment, impressive trees such as the Shihuahuaco, and the strangler fig, with excellent chances for bird watching and spotting exotic insects.

On your first night, we also recommend the Twilight River Excursion — a guided afternoon boat ride on the Madre de Dios River.

As dusk gives into the night, animals and birds adapted to the night come out. You will learn about their habits, while you search for nightjars, owls, capybaras and three different caiman species.

On your return to the lodge, dinner will be served in the main dining room between 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. After dinner, you may retire to your cabin, or join us at the Presentation at The Eco Center. Cocktail and dinner, served in the main dining room of the lodge.

Stay in bed a little longer or rise early — the choice is yours. Breakfast begins at 5:30am, a full buffet breakfast served until 9:30 a.m. This morning you may go for the Lake Sandoval excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. Sail in a wooden canoe, across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake, home to the endangered giant river otter, as well as red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles and black caimans. Return to the Inkaterra lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you can try the exciting Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. 29 meters above the ground, you start walking amongst the gigantic treetops on a suspension bridge of eight observation platforms. During this 1 ½ hrs expedition, be on the lookout for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. You can stay longer and watch the sunset from one of the towers. The excursion ends back in the lodge.

Once at the lodge, enjoy the daily nature presentation in the Ecomedia Center. Dinner starts at 7:30 p.m.

Venture into a trip to Gamitana Creek, 25 minutes by boat from the Inkaterra eco-lodge. For 1 ½ hrs, row your way through this dark-water creek, home to many piranhas, caimans, turtles and birds, until you reach Sanipanga. On your way back to Gamitana Farm you will learn how local farmers raise fruits and vegetables in this difficult enviroment. Return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, visit the Hacienda Concepcion, where they grow and preserve over 200 different plant species, and learn about the uses and benefits of traditional topical flora. This is followed by a 30- minute canoe trip to look for turtles, sun grebes, nightjars and exotic herons. Return to the Inkaterra lodge.

If you are not too tired you can join the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve 2-hour evening excursion and experience the mystery of the animal activity at night, enhancing animal resources to create new adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal forest sounds and spot species that only emerge at night. Return to the lodge.
