The Chan Chan Peru Package will take you through a fascinating discovery of the most outstanding cultures of the north of Peru – Moche and Chimú, remarkable civilizations overtaken by the Incas later on.

You will visit Huacas de Moche, a representative architectonic complex of the Moche culture. Lady of Cao, the oldest female ruler ever recognized in ancient Peru. Chan Chan is the capital citadel of the Chimu, the largest pre-columbian city and the formidable remains of the Lord of Sipan.



Arrival and City tour in Trujillo:
Flight Lima – Trujillo (not included). Our representative will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer to your hotel in Trujillo.

Later in the day, we will pick you up from your hotel and begin the city tour of one of the most beautiful colonial cities in northern Peru. Walk through its streets full of mansions and architectonic neoclassical and baroque style, among others masterpieces. Trujillo is part of the Moche Valley, where the important pre- Inca cultures of Moche and Chimú developed. Trujillo was the first Peruvian city to declare independence from Spain in 1820.

Chan Chan and Moche Culture Tour:
You will visit the archeological complex of the Huacas de Moche, admirable ancient remainings of the main center of the Moche culture, by the Cerro Blanco peak, strategically located near the mouth of the Moche River Valley. Huaca del Sol, built for administrative and residential purposes, and Huaca de la Luna, a ceremonial and religious center. A monumental site which bears proof of the Moche power, a civilization that expanded between 100 and 900AD.

After lunch, you will continue to Huanchaco, a traditional fishermen town key port for the Moche, the Chimu, and the Incas in the past. Presently we still find the outstanding “Caballitos de totora”, small reed boats used to surf the waves, a tradition that dates back more than 3,000 years.

Finally, only 4km further is your last stop, Chan Chan, the capital and largest pre-Columbian Chimu city. A magnificent architectural masterpiece. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.

Complex “El Brujo” and Lady of Cao Tour:

After breakfast, you will visit the complex of “El Brujo” (the wizard). It is an ancient ceremonial center where we will be able to admire 5,000 years of legacy of human occupation in this region, from the nomads to the Cupisnic, Moche, Lambayeque, Chimu, and Inca cultures until the colonial period and nowadays.

We will also learn the story of the most powerful Mochica woman who ruled the northern part of Peru in 300 A.D.: the famous Lady of Cao (duration: 3 hours). Lunch on route. Return to your hotel.

At night, transfer to the bus station to take your bus to Chiclayo (duration: 4 hours approx). Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Chiclayo.

Lord of Sican’s Tour:
Today you will visit the National Museum of Sican, which reveals the customs and lifestyle of Sican and harbors the Lord of Sican’s tombs and funerary pieces.

Continue at the Historical Sanctuary of Pomac Forest. Tour of the Dry Carob Forest, with a stop at the Interpretation Center, a close sight of the spectacular Millennium Tree, and the viewpoint “Las Salinas” and Batán Grande Archaeological Complex.

Finally, visit Túcume and the Valley of the Pyramids on 220 hectares. Túcume is the largest Archaeological Opencast Complex, found in the middle of an arid desert with a beautiful dry forest. Return to your hotel.

Lord of Sipan Full-Day Tour:
Pick-up from your hotel. Start by meeting the famous and miraculously intact Lord of Sipán at Huaca Rajada, a member of the Moche Dynasty and the first royal mummy to be discovered in Peru. The tour will continue at the Museum of Huaca Rajada that exhibits his remains.

After lunch, you will visit the National Museum of Royal Tombs, listed as the most modern in Latin America, where the real gems of the Mochica art remains and keeps the remains of the old dignitary of Sipan. Return to your hotel in Chiclayo.

Then, pick-up from your hotel and transfer to the airport to take your flight Chiclayo – Lima (not included).
