Amazon Tours: Arrival and Canopy Tower Walk

You will be given a brief talk of what to expect, before you start your 20 minute walk to the Canopy Tower scaffold with a banister staircase running through the middle providing safe access to the platforms above. All set to experience the Amazon Rainforest from the top of its vast trees (30 meters /100 ft.), incredible views and unique sensations by the Tambopata River meandering its way through the middle of the forest. Look up! And you’ll see a flock of birds resting on the trees tops next to you and others flying into the horizon.

Later on in the evening, you may join the revealing presentation of the Infierno Ecoturism Project conducted by a staff member.

Overnight at Posada Amazonas Lodge.

Amazon Tours: Tres Chimbadas Lake, Macaw & Parrot Clay Lick and Ethnobotanical Trail
We’ll head to Tres Chimbadas lake, either by boat (30 min.) or by foot (40 min.) from Posada Amazonas. Once there, we’ll get on a catamaran, and navigate around the lake to meet the alluring nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of lake visitors) the quiet caimans, wondering hoatzins and horned screamers on the lake’s edges. Otters are most active from dawn to 08:00 or 09:00 hrs.

Next, to witness the fascinating ritual of the Macaw & Parrots Clay Lick at a 20 minute walk from Posada Amazonas. We’ll watch this natural spectacle from a blind located about 20 meters away, from the river bank where parrots, macaws and parakeets flock around, ingesting the clay as part of a detox ritual. The clay lick is active at dawn, during the late mornings and mid-afternoons.

Later in the day, we’ll take a 20 minute downriver boat ride to an Ethnobotanical trail designed by the Centro Ñape, a community organization, in charge of producing medicine from Rainforest plants and treating patients. They created a nature trail explaining the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected Amazon plants.

You can go for night walk, an exciting option to spot mammals rarely seen during the day, also frogs with bizarre shapes and sounds.
